Ampeg B-15-N Model Tube Bass Amplifier (1966), made in Linden NJ, serial # 023013, blue checked Tolex finish.
This is a good example of the typical middle-1960's B-15N Portaflex, covered in Ampeg's trademark blue check Tolex with the classic deep and round sound these are rightly renowned for. Along with its slightly smaller brother, the B-12, the B-15 is well known as the greatest recording bass amplifier ever designed. Perfect for any studio situation and also a fine gigging amp in lower-volume situations. If a recording operation says they do "vintage sound" and don't have at least one of these, they're fooling themselves. The favorite of countless 1960's bass players including the dean of Motown bottom, James Jamerson, and still unmatched today.
Height is 29 1/2 in. (74.9 cm.), 21 in. (53.3 cm.) width, and 14 in. (35.6 cm.) deep. Just serviced, checked out and set up with NOS Sylvania preamp tubes and modern power tubes by the specialist Ampeg gurus at Fliptops. The amp has new filter caps, power resistor and a restored output transformer, but no alterations to the circuit. The 15" speaker is still original, something of a rarity now in old B-15's. Externally there is some wear to the tolex and corrosion to the metal but overall still a good looking and great sounding B-15, complete with the original dolly and a perfect repro light-up logo plate. Excellent - Condition.
