Fender Duo-Sonic II Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 132176, red lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original grey hard shell case.
This Duo-Sonic II was made about two years after the model's redesign, with components interchangeable with the new Mustang in mid-1964. This guitar has the shorter of the two scale lengths offered, 22 1/2" as found on all Duo-Sonics and Musicmasters made before mid-1964, but after that most shared a longer 24" scale neck with the Mustang.
Something of a forgotten model, the Duo-Sonic was largely eclipsed in the mid-'60s by the trem-equipped Mustang which sold over 16,000 units in this year alone. With its non-trem body-mounted bridge, the Duo-Sonic II is a more solid-feeling instrument to the player than the tremolo-equipped Mustang it shares all other features with. The switches for the two pickups offer on/off and in/out of phase pickup options, identical to the Mustang. This is a nicely preserved example and a fine-playing, light, handy little guitar.
Overall length is 38 1/4 in. (97.2 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 1/2 in. (572 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
A nice, all-original guitar with some light wear but no alterations or repairs. The finish shows checking overall and some dings and dents, but retains a nice vibrant color. There is some corrosion through the plating on the bass side of the bridge -- otherwise, the hardware is pretty clean. The frets show very little wear, and overall this is a great-playing example of Fender's pocket-sized rocker. Includes a nice original HSC. Excellent - Condition.
